Marc Marquez claimed pole position for the German MotoGP, but the real drama unfolded with Marco Bezzecchi's heavy crash. This thrilling race weekend saw the reigning MotoGP world champion showcase his prowess, while Bezzecchi's Aprilia endured another setback.
Marquez, the favorite going into qualifying, delivered a stellar performance. He utilized a two-stop strategy in the Q2 session, setting a new lap record of 1m19.041s to secure his third pole of the season. His brother, Alex Marquez, finished just 0.061s behind, and Fabio Di Giannantonio completed a Ducati 1-2-3 on the grid.
The Aprilia team, however, faced challenges. Marco Bezzecchi's RS-GP suffered a highside crash at Turn 7 during Q2, causing him to miss the rest of the session. This was his second major crash in consecutive rounds, following a fall at Assen. Bezzecchi will start in eighth place, though he was taken to the medical center for evaluation.
The race build-up was intense, with Marquez setting the early pace. Di Giannantonio quickly improved, taking the lead with a 1m19.188s. But Marquez, in a display of skill, produced a new lap record to secure pole position. The top three riders were separated by just 0.147s, with Raul Fernandez the only other rider within 0.2s of Marquez's time.
The Yamaha and Ducati teams also had their moments. Fabio Quartararo qualified sixth on the leading Yamaha, while Franco Morbidelli finished seventh on the VR46 Ducati. However, Morbidelli will drop three grid positions for impeding Pedro Acosta in Practice. Championship leader Jorge Martin was only ninth, and Acosta finished 10th on the KTM.
The Honda team, unfortunately, missed out on the pole shootout session, with Joan Mir as their leading contender in 13th place. Pecco Bagnaia topped Q1 but could only manage 11th on his factory Ducati, behind Pramac Yamaha's Jack Miller.
