"When you get there, there's a strong sense of being in the middle of nowhere," Maritz says. "It's a catharsis, a feeling of being exhausted after a day in the sun and sand, and finding refuge." Further inland, in the rocky desert plains of Damaraland, lies Onduli Enclave, a private villa that floats on stilts above a granite outcrop overlooking Brandberg Mountain. Designed by Trevor Nott, the villa is a masterpiece of organic architecture, with its metal giraffes protruding from the boulder, signaling the end of the journey. Nott, a former ecologist, emphasizes the importance of using local, biodegradable materials, creating a structure that feels like an extension of the natural landscape.
